Pricing is a courage problem, not a math problem
Yesterday, I said this:
Decide on a price.
Make the offer.
Observe what happens.
Learn.
Adjust.
Repeat.
But I left off at least two key steps—ones that can be especially hard for accountants:
Stay out of perfectionism.
Be kind to yourself, no matter what.
Because pricing isn't a math problem. It's a courage problem.
If you're feeling scared to raise prices, it might sound like logic in your head:
"I want to get it right."
"If I don't get it right, I've screwed it up."
"Screwing up means I'm dumb."
"So I'd better get it right."
"Actually, even better if I get it perfect."
That loop keeps you stuck.
The work is to break the loop.
Set the price anyway.
Let it be imperfect.
And be kind to yourself in the process.
…
Self-kindness first.
Courage second.
Price third.
