How much would you pay for 4 pounds of plastic, 8 oz of aluminum, and 3 oz of cork?

Probably not that much, right? Like maybe a buck or two. Or $0.

Because... why? "Why would I buy that? What am I gonna do with cork?"

...

So let’s say your answer is: “A dollar.”

...

Well.

I dropped almost a grand on 4 pounds of plastic, 8 oz of aluminum, and 3 oz of cork.

A grand.

$1000.

Why?

Because I wasn’t buying raw materials.

I was buying something else entirely.

A pair of ski boots.

Four pounds of custom-fit plastic.

Four buckles on each.

Cork footbeds.

...

Still think that's an insane amount of money?

Perhaps, but not to me.

What I got for $1000 was...

OMG.

Words can’t even describe.

The precision. The handling. The control at speed. The confidence in narrow, tricky terrain. Serious comfort.

Knowing I could "point it," then smear a turn to dump speed on a dime?

Unreal.

These (high-performance) ski boots made skiing so. much. more. fun. Compared to my old, mushy, too-soft pair? Night and day.

...

$1000. For plastic, aluminum, and cork.

Worth every penny.

...

Where am I going with this?

Ask me: Geraldine, how much would you pay for a Tax Plan? I dunno… a buck? What even is a tax plan? And why would I buy one? What's that going to do for me? How will my life be better with a tax plan?

...

Plastic, aluminum, cork, tax plan.

When a seller misses the mark on articulating the value of her product... it might be hard to get the price above a buck.
