“What to do about my niche?”

Think of it like a funnel with rungs, and simply go to the next rung down.

Define that rung:

  • Who is in it now?

  • Who is no longer in it?

  • What challenges do they have that are unique to them?

  • Where could you bring value?

...

If you like the idea of your next-rung-down niche, but you’re not ready to commit to it yet, try it on for size in your own mind for two weeks and see what happens.

Do you get more curious, or do you want to turn away?

If you get more curious, keep following your curiosity. This could mean anything from studying up with podcasts and books to Googling people in your town in that niche and meeting with them.

If you want to turn away, turn away. There are plenty of wonderful niches out there for you – don’t waste your precious time and energy forcing yourself into a niche you don’t feel a natural affinity toward.

Above all, do not stay put. Keeping moving, keep trying things on for size.

...

You’ll never know if your niche fits by staying outside the storefront with your face smushed up against the glass.
